Long kitchen ideas – how to make the most of your space
At Prestons Kitchens, we understand that long kitchens can be seen as a challenge to design, with potential for a cramped feel and poor traffic flow if designed incorrectly. However, at Prestons, we focus on maximising your space to create your dream kitchen. Our in-house designers will create multiple options for your space, taking into account your lifestyle, preferences and requirements, so you don’t have to lift a finger. Here, we’re sharing the key areas that our designers look at to optimise a long kitchen.
Use height to your advantage
When designing a long kitchen, it’s important to consider than an option is to not build out, but to build up. We consider a range of things including stacked appliances, floor to ceiling units and hidden storage to truly get the most out of your space.
By doing this, we can create a nice flow in the room, enabling the kitchen to function as it should, without the build-up of traffic, so multiple people can be in the kitchen at once. A long kitchen can also be a great option for families, as higher storage means that any sharp objects, or heavy appliances can be kept well away from children.
Embrace natural light
A great way to give the illusion that a room is more spacious, is through lighting. If your long kitchen has large windows, use them! The natural lighting gives an open and airy feel.
However, if your room has limited natural lighting, there are plenty of amazing lighting options to available. You can use means such as under cabinet lighting, vertical LED strips and lighted shelf units to make your room feel more spacious and bright.
Choosing the right colour palette
Colour can have a huge impact on how the space is experienced. For example, light colours and reflective surfaces can make a small kitchen feel open and airier. Stainless steel appliances and glossy laminates reflect light, creating the illusion of a larger space.
Dark colours, when used sparingly can add a stylist accent. But used too heavily, they could make a room feel smaller and closed off.
Be considered with your choices when looking at colours. Our design team will suggest a range of options that suit your space and your style.
Integrated appliances
By integrating your appliances, including microwaves, ovens, and hot water appliances, into the walls or cabinets, you gain more of that valuable worktop room. This enables you to make the most of whatever space you have. Here at Prestons Kitchens, we are never afraid to take on a challenge. We create gorgeous kitchens, of any shape or size, and after a free consultation and home measure, we offer our customers multiple designs to choose from, to create their dream kitchen, no matter the size or budget.
